Reminder: Klondike Derby is tomorrow

February 5, 2010

If any wants a ride to Peabody tomorrow, be in the church parking lot at 7:45am and we’ll have several vehicles carpooling to Brooksby Farm. If you’re getting dropped of in Peabody please be there no later than 8:15am to sign in. Simply look for our Troop in the parking lot.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY!!!! Much of Brooksby is shaded and the wind can be pretty heavy across the farmland. Bring water and a lunch, or you can by lunch there (but options are very limited, usually hotdogs & chips). The event is scheduled to end at 4:15pm and we will NOT be carpooling home as several folks have other appointments later in the day. Therefore, any one carpooling to the event needs to make arrangements to get home to Lynnfield (we can make tentative plans tomorrow morning when you get dropped off).

Mr. Boone

PS: Bring water, lunch and a compass if you have one. I also highly recommend warm boots and layers of clothing.

Troop Calendar Updates

January 27, 2010

The updated troop calendar is attached in Microsoft Word format.

Please note it has some event dates that have changed since the last edition. The Court of Honor / Spaghetti dinner is being postponed until February 22 at 6pm. We will have regular scout meetings on Monday, February 1st and 8th (no meeting on Feb 15th school vacation week). Therefore, scouts have two extra weeks to finish any rank and merit badge requirements.

The Klondike Derby is on Saturday, February 6th in Peabody.

The March camping & ski trip is the weekend of March 5-7th at Camp Storer in Barnstead, New Hampshire.

The April school vacation week trip to Washington, DC will be announced with more details within the next two weeks.

Tomorrows meeting is at REI in Reading

January 25, 2010

Reminder, tomorrow nights meeting is at 7pm at REI Sporting Goods in Reading on 279 Salem St; (exit 40 off Route 128). We’ll be given a cold-weather clothing presentation. Scouts should be picked up between 8:20 and 8:30pm.

Therefore, we will not be at the church at all tomorrow night!

Paperwork for Ski trip

January 12, 2010

For all those not at last nights meeting:

Every scout coming to Canada this weekend without BOTH parents needs to have a permission slip from EACH parent not coming. Each slip must be signed and notarized!! As a reminder, everyone coming needs a valid passport.

For example, scouts coming alone need two permission slips each signed by one parent and each notarized. Scouts coming with one parent need one permission slip signed by the parent who is not coming on the trip.

Everyone renting equipment needs to fill out a rental slip AND have it signed by an adult.

Both forms are attached. All paperwork should be in the hands of the adult scouts are traveling with. The drivers list will go out later today.

Both forms are attached to this message.

Thanks,

Mr Boone

Ski Trip to Mt. Orford, Quebec – January 15-17th…(immediate reply requested!)

January 5, 2010

As discussed prior to the holidays and at last nights meeting, we need a definite headcount for the ski trip to Mt. Orford next weekend ASAP. That said it’s not too late to sign up (assuming you have a passport or can obtain one quickly).

****Please reply to this message in the next 24 hours if you are planning on attending****

Presently going are: the Boones (6); Enos (4); Braconniers (2?); Sanfords (4?) and ???????

There is a limited number of vehicle passenger space for additional individuals unless another adult is driving that I don’t know about in which case we can take many more. Individual scouts will be accommodated to the best of our ability so please sign up!

We’ll be lodging at the Centre d’Arts Orford on Friday and Saturday nights (January 15 & 16th). The cost of lodging includes a full breakfast Saturday & Sunday as well as a full dinner on Saturday evening. Lunches will be at the mountain cafeteria at your own expense or you may bring lunches with you. Some folks are skiing for one day only, others may go for both days. Linens and towels are provided along with complete showers.

Although the trip is a rather short duration and a somewhat long ride (although still closer than several spots in Maine), it’s a chance to cross the boarder and visit another country, experience people speaking French as a first language, have at least one great day of skiing (just five minutes from the lodge) and do a little sightseeing along the way.

Total cost for the lodging & meals (as described above): $ 100 per person (plus any spending money)

Cost for the skiing (to be determined based upon the # who ski; we need 20 for the special rate): if we have 20 signed up it is $28 per day for students 14 years and older, $21 per day for those 13 and under, and $36 for adults (all are full mountain tickets). Optional rentals are $20 per day.

Payment in full will be due at next Mondays meeting.

****Please reply to this message in the next 24 hours if you are planning on attending****

No meeting tonight, next meeting January 4th!

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!

Meeting Saturday at 3pm for compass course

December 18, 2009

Attention all scouts!!

Your SPL Sean Enos has asked me to send this reminder to all scouts that we’ll be meeting tomorrow at 3pm in the church parking lot to participate in our compass course and troop meeting afterwards. Scout uniforms are not required but appropriate outdoor clothing is necessary as this event will be entirely outside. Everyone with a compass is asked to bring it along (even if you’ve done the course before!).

I’m guessing that the meeting will last no more than 90 minutes or so and we’ll conclude the meeting with hot chocolate somewhere in the vicinity of the church, town common or fire station area.

This meeting will take the place of this coming Monday night’s meeting and thus there will be no meeting Monday, December 21st. The next regular Monday meeting will be on January 4th.

I wish all scouts and their families a Merry Christmas & a happy and safe vacation week!!!

Mr. Boone
