2010 Mt. Cardigan Trip Permission Slip

The scout meeting will begin at 7pm at the church hall as usual. We will walk over to the middle school at 7:20pm.

However, scouts will be dismissed at the middle school cafeteria entrance at 8:30pm sharp. Therefore, all pickups should be from the middle school at 8:30pm.  Scouts wishing to stay for the entire meeting can do so if their parents are present, or if they bring a parents note stating they have permission to do so.

The town is looking for two volunteers to stay for the entire meeting and serve as microphone runners for the meeting.  If anyone is interested please respond to this message ASAP (note: volunteers must stay for the entire meeting!)

Unfortunately, the trip to the Boy Scout Fall Camporee that was planned for this weekend has been canceled as one of the adult leaders who had planned on going became ill and there also was very limited scout interest.

However, the hiking trip for early November is a go for the  weekend of 11/5-11/7.  We are planning to hike Cardigan Mt. (website links provided below) , which is a moderately rated hike and will qualify for a required hike toward the camping merit badge.

We plan to leave Friday afternoon/evening, 11/5, hike on Saturday, 11/6, and return early on Sunday, 11/7.

Permission slips with more details will be provided at this Monday’s scout meeting and forwarded via e-mail.

The Boy Scout Fall Camporee Friday October 15th through Sunday October 17th IS ON!

Mark Braconnier and Scott Walton are our Friday Night Adult Scout Leaders. The fee for those attending the entire weekend is $35 and for those arriving Saturday after lunch the reduced fee is $25. The fee covers event registration of 8$ per scout and/or scouter, 1$ each toward the 10$ Troop registration fee, and the rest is to cover food . There does appear to be the likelyhood of at least some wind and rain so…….BE PREPRED with rain gear. Plan to dress with layers of clothing as this is Fall and the temperatures can and will vary more widely. I will follow this email up with more infomation tonight to those whom have notified mme they are coming. If you changed your mind and wish to be added contact me immediately.

Since the weekend trip is a troop competition theme we need scouts to be there the entire day on Saturday if our troop is to compete.  Any one interested in attending should email Mr. Meagher by noontime tomorrow.  We will announce whether the trip is on or off tomorrow evening.

Please see the attached WORD document regarding the first Southern District Boy Scout Fall Camporee to be held from Friday October 15th through Sunday October 17th at the Lonetree Scout Reservation in Kingston, New Hampshire. If you haven’t camped here before I can assure you that it’s a great place.

I spoke with Scout Leader Jeff Hildonen, whom is co-ordinating the Troops booking in, along with activities, and he explained that at this Camporee the first rule of scouting is strictly enforced!!!!! What’s the first rule of Scouting some of you may be asking…….HAVE FUN!

Seriously, he assured us that this is a welcoming, fun, low pressure Camporee and if folks can’t make the whole weekend they shouldn’t neccessarily skip the whole event. I think this is a great place for new Scouts just starting out with Troop 48 and some of our more experienced Scouts to get aquainted, so everybody is encouraged to come out to this Camporee.

I (Mr. Meagher) won’t be able to arrive Friday night but I believe Mr Braconnier will be there that night. We need at least two-deep adult supervision so I’m looking for responses as to whom might be planning on attending and when, for both scouts as well as adults. For what its worth the long-range weather forecast looks good:

All families are invited for ice cream and encouraged to attend. The meeting will start promptly at 7pm and end no later than 8:30pm (so the Pat’s game tonight is no excuse for not coming!).

If you haven’t already paid your annual dues, you can bring a check along tonight and we will also hand out our annual calendar of trips for the year.

Scouts should be in full uniform for tonight’s COH.

Please make a check payable for $100 to “Troop 48″ and bring it to an upcoming Monday night meeting. I would like to thank Mrs. Heidi Robinson for her many years as Troop Treasurer and welcome our new Troop Treasurer Mrs. Jodene Sanford who recently took over the role.

Going forward, all troop payments should be made at a troop meeting or via the mail to Mrs. Sanford.
